Afterschool Program
Homework Hangout Club, Inc. (HHC) began as an afterschool program. Its founders, Rosie and Keith Anderson wanted to serve their community by providing its youth with a hot evening meal, help with their homework, and fun activities that develop self-confidence and leadership skills. Now over thirty years later, the program has expanded to include financial literacy, cultural programs, and assistance with social and emotional needs.
“We can’t help kids without helping the entire family,” Keith Anderson commented. This was never more apparent than at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Homework Hangout Club pivoted from offering in-person services, to providing hot meals twice daily to people in need within a fifty-mile radius.
Most recently, with the help of twenty donors and partners, Homework Hangout opened its doors to about 300 children and families, with the return of the Decatur Community Christmas Celebration (DC3).
